Discover, Connect and Grow
Through Hands-On Experiences with Horses

At Strides to Excellence, we help people discover new confidence, clarity and connection through non-riding experiences with horses. Whether you’re a business team wanting stronger communication, a family hoping to reconnect or an individual seeking personal growth, our guided activities with horses offer powerful, real-world learning moments in a calm, natural setting.
Our horses are the same beloved herd featured in Magic Valley Horses, bringing their real personalities into both our ranch programs and our educational stories and printables for kids.

Why Horses Make Such Powerful Teachers
It’s not what you learn about horses that makes them so important—it’s what they help you discover about yourself and others. Horses react honestly to our body language, energy, and emotions in the moment. They naturally mirror us, giving immediate, non-judgmental feedback about how we show up in relationships, communication, and leadership.
Because of this, every activity with a horse becomes a chance to notice patterns, practice new skills, and experience what positive change feels like in real time.

Real-Life Skills You Can Feel
Enhanced Communication
Equine-assisted learning encourages clear, respectful communication—both verbal and non-verbal. Participants learn to listen, lead, and respond in ways that improve teamwork, family dynamics, and everyday interactions.
Confidence & Self-Belief
Successfully connecting with a 1,000-pound animal builds a powerful sense of “I can do this.” Participants often leave feeling more capable, grounded, and willing to try new things.
Problem-Solving & Presence
Horses don’t respond to pretending or pushing. Working with them teaches patience, creativity, and awareness, helping people slow down, notice what’s really happening, and try a different approach.

How Does It Work?

Participants learn about themselves and others by engaging in activities with the horses and then processing (or discussing) thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and patterns. This non-riding program focuses on human skills, not horsemanship skills. Activities are designed to create metaphors to “real life.” Everything that is done with the horses is related to what is happening at home, school, work, and in relationships.
By integrating horse-based activities, both business teams and families can experience improved relationships, reduced stress, and a renewed sense of connection and well-being.

Meet the Horses Behind Magic Valley Horses
The horses you meet at Strides to Excellence are the same real-life herd that inspires our Magic Valley Horses stories, coloring books, and printable activities for kids.
Each horse has a unique personality—brave, kind, curious, thoughtful—and those qualities show up both in our ranch programs and in the educational resources we create for families, classrooms, and groups.

Can Horses Really Make a Difference?
Founder’s Message

I first became interested in what horses can do for humans when I went to work for a program teaching riding in the early 2000s. One 4-year-old boy started it all. He was absolutely terrified when he arrived and took lots of one-on-one attention to get him near the horse. After just a session or two, he was first in line to get “his” horse ready. And he wasn’t the only one.
I began researching equine-assisted learning, taking classes, attending workshops and planning. Eventually I, along with an addiction counselor, started a program that served folks with addictions and youth-at-risk. These programs led to team building and private activities for individuals. Over and over I saw so many ah-ha moments.
Today, that passion continues through Strides to Excellence and our sister brand Magic Valley Horses, where the same herd helps people grow—both at the ranch and through creative learning resources for kids.
